Museums & Art THE MINT MUSEUM OF ART showcases Charlotte’s premier art collections in the historic Federal-style building that was the region’s first US mint. A rich craft tradition is celebrated at the MINT MUSEUM OF CRAFT & DESIGN with year-round exhibits of traditional and contemporary ceramics, wood, metal and other media. Carolina aviation heritage is on display along with historical aircraft and other relics at the CAROLINAS AVIATION MUSEUM adjacent to Charlotte/Douglas International Airport. Historic Charlotte HISTORIC CHARLOTTE supports and coordinates the activities of heritage groups throughout the greater Charlotte region. Charlotte-Mecklenburg HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION documents and helps protect the city’s landmark buildings. CHARLOTTE TROLLEY promotes the region’s transportation heritage through educational programs and a museum devoted to the history of streetcars in the South. The JAMES K. POLK HISTORIC SITE at Pineville pays tribute to the nation's 11th president with early 1800s-vintage log buildings and artifacts simulating Polk’s childhood homestead. HISTORIC LATTA PLANTATION at Huntersville offers a glimpse into the world of planters, yeoman farmers, and slaves of the North Carolina backcountry in the early 19th century.
With three performance spaces, the state-of-the-art BLUMENTHEL PERFORMING ARTS CENTER is home to many organizations including the Charlotte Symphony, Opera Carolina, and the North Carolina Dance Theatre.
OPERA CAROLINA presents four main stage productions a year, an annual Holiday show, plus Education & Outreach programs. The ACTOR'S THEATRE OF CHARLOTTE presents bold and innovative new works by contemporary playwrights from Broadway, Off-Broadway, and beyond. CAROLINA ACTOR'S STUDIO THEATRE offers culturally diverse experimental theatre and film that strives to reach a broad audience while maintaining an independent spirit. NORTH CAROLINA DANCE THEATRE has been entertaining audiences The OVENS AUDITORIUM is a 2500-seat venue offering a full range of entertainment from comedy and concerts to kids programs. Ethnic Culture The AFRO-AMERICAN CULTURAL CENTER celebrates Charlotte’s African American community with an ongoing series of dynamic art, music, cultural and history events. Tai chi, yoga, meditation, kung fu and other Eastern practices are offered at The PEACEFUL DRAGON CULTURAL CENTER . The PERSIAN CULTURAL CENTER OF THE CAROLINAS is dedicated to preserving traditional Persian culture in the region while offering diverse programs such as arts and crafts, language and dance. INTERNATIONAL HOUSE is a haven for people of all nationalities, with cultural exchange programs, immigration, citizenship and corporate issues addressed in a supportive multilingual environment. The annual YIASOU GREEK FESTIVAL features food, entertainment, cultural events and a lively street atmosphere that has earned it ‘top-10 festival’ status in Charlotte for over a decade.
